I've experimented with SEO, Google Ads, print marketing, and cold outreach and know the basics there. But the channels I've had the best results and the most volume is social media (both paid and organic on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok) and email marketing (newsletters, follow up campaigns, and nurture sequences).
Tracking both inputs and outcomes is critical. It's easy to get sucked into tracking only outcomes but especially with channels like organic social media content, the amount of content you are putting out has a huge impact on how well your paid ads convert because there is more trust associated with your brand from free content so the paid content hits harder.
So with the outcome in mind, you pick KPIs that can show both inputs and outputs. For example, in organic content, the goal is to get high amounts of watch time to build massive amounts of trust with the audience so when they do see a paid ad, they are more likely to believe you. But you can't only track watch time, you also need to track how many pieces of content are created, what cadence of posting gets the highest watch time on a weekly basis, how many views each piece is getting, and when people are scrolling off the videos so you know how to improve the content further.
